![]() ![]() Its from the homeric hymn to demeter which clearly shows persephone’s sentiment. All this is true, sore though it grieves me to tell this tale.’ “ That I plucked in my joy but the earth parted beneath, and there the strong lord, Polydegmon (Host of Many) sprang forth and in his golden chariot he bore me away, all unwilling, beneath the earth : then I cried with a shrill cry. All we were playing in a lovely meadow, Leukippe and Phaino and Elektra and Ianthe, Melite also and Iakhe with Rhodea and Kallirhoe and Melobosis and Tykhe and Okyrhoe, fair as a flower, Khryseis, Ianeira, Akaste and Admete and Rhodope and Plouto and charming Kalypso Styx too was there and Ourania and lovely Galaxaure with Pallas who rouses battles and Artemis delighting in arrows: we were playing and gathering sweet flowers in our hands, soft crocuses mingled with irises and hyacinths, and rose-blooms and lilies, marvellous to see, and the narcissus which the wide earth caused to grow yellow as a crocus. ![]() ![]() Also I will tell how he rapt me away by the deep plan of my father the Son of Kronos and carried me off beneath the depths of the earth, and will relate the whole matter as you ask. When luck-bringing Hermes came, swift messenger from my father the Son of Kronos and the other Sons of Ouranos, bidding me come back from Erebos that you might see me with your eyes and so cease from your anger and fearful wrath against the gods, I sprang up at once for joy but he secretly put in my mouth sweet food, a pomegranate seed, and forced me to taste against my will. “ Then beautiful Persephone answered her thus : ‘Mother, I will tell you all without error. She didnt want to be kidnapped and forced into marriage with someone she probably didnt even know. Persephone was shown as being incredibly sad and missing her mother. And in addition to kidnapping her, Hades also tricked her into eating the seeds. And she did not have fun while kidnapped. And if Persephone wasnt “neutral” by any means. ![]() But presenting it as fact is just not done. Im not against theories, in fact there are a few that i believe. And OSP does not provide us with sources unless they happen to mention it in passing, which they rarely do. If someone else found something, i would be more than happy to learn about it, provided they actually state their sources and provide precedent. This is about the greek myths, in which, according to the oldest version of the story we have, persephone was kidnapped. I agree with how there are records of Hades not existing before and Persephone doing so, but those aren’t really what we’re talking about. Also the Duggy1138 asked you for sources, not a video by people who MIGHT have done some research. If you choose to accept that, good for you, but even SHE says that she’s just theorising. Also, Red clearly states that its just a theory that she personally has. And they don’t provide any bibliography or anything for viewers to explore for themselves. They are not to be used as academic sources. Also, at the end of the day, while funny and educational, OSP is meant for entertainment. Dude, OSP literally says that the “persephone wanted to explore the underworld” was a MODERN version that doesn’t have any mythological precedent. ![]()
